G5 EFIS GARMIN kit for experimental aircraft/LSA, microlight and non-certified aircraft
This GARMIN G5 is a non-certified aircraft navigation equipment, designed to improve the safety and efficiency of your flight. This kit includes the G5 GARMIN + the installation kit with LPM module + the backup battery.
Primary or backup flight instrument with optional autopilot capability
- Bright, sunlight-readable 3.5-inch color LCD screen, sized to fit standard 3-1/8-inch instrument cutout
- Can be used as the main EFIS attitude indicator or DG/HSI display - or as a fully integrated backup flight instrument for G3X™, G3X Touch™ or other experimental/LSA glass cockpits
- Provides stand-alone or backup autopilot control, enabling coupled GPS approaches to be made or continued in the event of loss of main display
- In the event of aircraft power failure, the optional backup battery powers the G5 flight display with up to 4 hours of backup power.
- The dual G5 installation offers reversible display capability, as well as the added redundancy of dual ADAHRS and two back-up batteries.
Designed by our dedicated "Team X" engineering group specifically for the experimental amateur-built (EAB) and light sport aircraft (LSA) markets, the affordable G5 electronic flight instrument offers outstanding performance, reliability and ease of installation as an all-in-one instrument. a backup or main "glass cockpit" display. The crisp, sunlight-readable 3.5" LCD screen fits into a standard 3-1/8" round cut-out, occupying only a fraction of the space and weight previously required by conventional gyro instruments.
The G5 features 2 pilot-selectable main page formats: a PFD page and a DG (directional gyro) or HSI (horizontal situation indicator) page. VHF or GPS navigation inputs are required to drive the HSI display; for the GPS interface, an optional GAD™ 29 navigation data adapter is required. By combining visual cues and data readouts previously scattered across a myriad of instruments, the G5 makes it easy to digitize flight information, so pilots can react more quickly and intuitively to any in-flight situation.
Foolproof attitude reference
When configured as the primary attitude indicator, the G5 uses solid-state AHRS reference to provide smooth, stable and reliable horizon-based pitch and roll indications. In addition to aircraft attitude, the G5 will also support the display of airspeed, altitude, vertical speed, sideslip, rate of turn, configurable V-speed references, barometric setting and selected altitude, as well as visual alerts on arrival at a pre-selected altitude. A built-in GPS receiver and antenna (with the option of connecting an external GPS antenna) provide highly accurate readings of ground speed and ground track. What's more, a dedicated rotary knob on the unit allows easy adjustments to altitude bugs and barometric pressure parameters.
Get a clearer sense of direction
To provide even more situational awareness, the G5 instrument can also function as a DG or HSI in your panel. When combined with an affordable GMU 11 magnetometer and selected VHF Nav/Comms or GPS navigators (interfaced with the optional GAD 29 navigation data adapter), the G5 can serve as a primary reference source for magnetic heading, VOR/LOC and/or GPS guidance. - as well as ground speed and distance indications. The unit displays both vertical and lateral GPS/VOR/LOC heading deviation when available (additional equipment may be required). And you can use the G5 instrument's rotary knob to easily make and adjust heading selections - or to control heading bug parameters in DG installations. As the GMU 11 is connected to the CAN bus network, a single magnetometer can provide heading information to 2 G5 units simultaneously.
Two displays double your options
By installing two G5 displays in your panel, you not only benefit from dedicated instruments for attitude reference and gyro/HSI directional guidance, but also enjoy the advantages of back-up redundancy with dual ADAHRS and reversible display capability. In such installations, a secondary G5 can revert to displaying attitude information (consolidated with heading indication) in the unlikely event of a main attitude indicator position failure. For added "back home" protection, each G5 display is available with an optional lithium-ion battery backup, which can provide up to 4 hours of emergency operation in the event of a power failure or aircraft shutdown. And if you're using one of our aviation notebooks aera®¹ series as a backup solution, you can fly with battery-powered moving map navigation guidance - as well as flight display information from the G5 instrument - to make that electronic aircraft failure virtually a non-event.
It gets even better with G3X
When used as a backup instrument for your G3X , G3X Touch or any other compatible glass display system, the G5 offers a full range of additional EFIS functionality. So, if required, it can be used to maintain the majority of your flight display and autopilot control functions, including the ability to perform coupled GPS approaches. G5 will also provide a backup ADAHRS reference to the main displays. Whatever happens, with a G5 electronic flight instrument in your system, you can count on a wider range of options in virtually any shutdown scenario.
Autonomous flight instrument with autopilot
The G5 can be installed as part of a GFC™ 500X system with an autopilot control panel GMC 305 or GMC 507 AUTOPILOT CONTROL PANEL and up to 3 intelligent servos GSA 28 to operate as a stand-alone flight instrument with integrated autopilot functions. In addition, the gTN™ Xi series navigators 2 or a portable GPS GARMIN such as aera 660 , aera 795 or aera 796 can be connected to the G5's serial port, enabling the autopilot to couple laterally to the flight plan and vertically to support VNAV. descents at model altitude. Other lateral and vertical autopilot modes selectable from the GMC 305 or GMC 507 include heading, pitch, roll, altitude hold, vertical speed hold and speed hold. Even the level mode button (LVL) on the control panel is supported to engage the autopilot and restore the aircraft to level flight at the touch of a button.
